I Santuari di Noto
Lasciato l’abitato periferico a nord della città, per la strada statale 287, la strada si snoda ad anse fino a S. Corrado fuori le mura (Km 4 circa), luogo di villeggiatura per molte famiglie netine. Nella parte alta scendendo nella Valle dei Miracoli, località alberata e contraddistinta da un religioso silenzio, appena interrotto dal cinguettio degli uccelli, si gode di un ambiente francescano, anacoretico. Vi si ritirò il frate francescano Corrado Confalonieri, nobile piacentino, poi canonizzato e riconosciuto come Patrono di Noto. Attraverso un vialetto si procede verso l’Eremo e poi il Santuario settecentesco, che include la grotta che ospitò il Santo.
Nella chiesetta il visitatore può ammirare la Grotta della preghiera, che ospita la statua marmorea del Patrono, opera pregevole dello scultore Giuseppe Fortunato Pirrone, e la pala dell’altare maggiore raffigurante “La Vergine con il Bambino e S. Corrado”, opera del Conca. Alla sinistra della chiesa, sotto l’altare, si trovano i resti mortali di S. Leonzio Martire. Altre curiosità sono costituite dal piccolo Museo degli ex-voto, ricco di prodotti di vario tipo, e dal bellissimo presepe realizzato con materiali settecenteschi.
Riprendendo il viaggio sulla strada per Palazzolo Acreide fino al Km.10, svoltando a sinistra per la strada provinciale, con alla destra le edicole della Via Crucis, si arriva al Santuario della Madonna Scala del Paradiso. La chiesa e il convento settecenteschi, voluti dal Venerabile Girolamo Terzo, sorgono in posizione eminente, su un poggetto con due scalinate. Dal terrazzo il visitatore può ammirare un paesaggio verde e coronato da rocce. All’interno, sull’altare maggiore, si può ammirare un’immagine della Madonna con il Bambino e sotto l’altare l’urna contenente i resti mortali di S. Franzo. Sulla sinistra è tumulato il Venerabile Terzo e sulla destra v’è la sua cella.
After leaving the peripheral north town, on the state road 287, the road winds with loops to S. Corrado outside the walls (about 4 Km), a holiday resort for many Noto families. In the upper part going down in the Valley of Miracles, wooded location and marked by a profound silence, broken only by the chirping of birds, you can enjoy a Franciscan and anchoretic environment. Here withdrew the Franciscan friar Corrado Confalonieri, nobleman from Piacenza, later canonized and recognized as Patron of Noto. Through a driveway we proceed towards the Hermitage and then the eighteenth century shrine, which includes the cave that housed the Saint.
In the church, visitors can admire the Grotto of the prayer, which houses the marble statue of the patron saint, valuable work of the sculptor Giuseppe Fortunato Pirrone, and the altarpiece depicting “The Virgin and Child with St. Corrado”, work of Conca . On the left of the church, under the altar, lie the mortal remains of St. Leander Martyr. Moreover you can find the small votive Museum, rich in products of various kinds, and the beautiful nativity scene made of eighteenth century materials .
Continuing the journey on the road to Palazzolo Acreide till Km.10, turning left for the country road, with the newsstands of the Cross on the right, you come to the Sanctuary of Our Lady Ladder of Paradise. The church and the convent of the eighteenth century, wanted by the Venerable Jerome Third, arise in a prominent position, on a hill with two staircases. From the terrace, visitors can admire a green landscape crowned by rocks. Inside, on the main altar, you can see an image of the Madonna and Child and under the altar the urn containing the mortal remains of St. Franzo. On the left it is buried Venerable Third and on his right there is his cell.
